About the Artist - Murray Barber

Murray's love of boats comes naturally to one who has lived on both coasts of Canada. Murray has been an artist since the mid-70s, working in a variety of media, including woodcarving, metal working, model building, freelance photography, carpentry and cabinet making and building properties for Disney films.

In metalworking and jewelry, he has fabricated museum model prototypes, film properties, model building and sculpture in metal, and has a broad working knowledge of traditional and non-traditional jewelry fabrication techniques and materials.

In woodworking, he is very experienced in building museum-quality marine models, radio-controlled model racing yachts, micro-level carvings to large sculptural objects, and strip planked canoes.

His radio-controlled wooden model sail boats have been exhibited across Canada, from the Halifax International Boat Show and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, to the Model Ship and Fly Fishing Museum on Granville Island in Vancouver.

Murray's professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

Balancing artistic ability with business skills acquired as an independent renovations contractor and vehicle repairman is a key factor in Murray's success. He is knowledgeable in estimating, scheduling, shop materials, and safety in model making, general woodworking, artists' studios and repair facilities.
